Successfully reached the standard 2023 world track and field championships-veteran Dong Guojian hopes to surpass himself continuously
Today, many contemporary teammates have been retired for many years, Dong Guojian, 35, is still running on the marathon track that constantly surpasses himself. At the 2022 Chicago Marathon, which ended not long ago, Dong Guojian won the 10th place at 2 hours at 8 minutes 53 seconds, successfully reaching the goal of the 2023 Budapest world track and field championships.
On August this year, the standard line of the world track and field championships in Budapest was announced, among which the standard line of the men’s marathon was 2 hours at 9 minutes 40 seconds. Dong Guojian, Peng Jianhua, Yang Shaohui and others have been following the national team for training in Kenya some time ago. Their main task of participating in the Chicago Marathon this time is to launch an impact on the standard line of the world championship.
Dong Guojian, born Luquan Yi and Miao autonomous county in Kunming, Yunnan province, entered the Chenggong training base in Yunnan province in 2004 and began to receive professional training for middle and long distance running. In 2009, he took part in the National Games for the first time and stood on the podium in the men’s 10000 m competition. Four years later, when he came to the National Games again, he fell into the bottom of his sports career. “That period was the hardest. I practiced well before the competition, so I had high expectations. It’s a pity that the competition was so smashed because of the excessive practice before the competition and the physical adjustment. After the game, I feel that my life has reached the lowest point.” Dong Guojian said.
In the low ebb, Dong Guojian never slowed down his progress. There is always a return to pay. In the 2017 Tianjin National Games marathon, Dong Guojian stood on the top podium of the National Games. Since then, Dong Guojian has been running farther and farther on the marathon track. In the 2019 Berlin Marathon, Dong Guojian won the seventh place at 8 minutes 28 seconds in 2 hours, creating the second best result in the history of Chinese marathon. At the World Track and Field Championships held by Eugene in the United States this summer, Dong Guojian finished the race at 2 hours at 11 minutes 14 seconds, creating the fastest result in the Chinese men’s marathon world championships.
Dong Guojian did not lose speed during the Chicago Marathon. It took Dong Guojian, 35 kilometers, 1 hour at 46 minutes 18 seconds, to chase the 13th place, 40 kilometers to chase the 10th place, and finally crossed the end with the 10th place. Before the Chicago Marathon, Dong Guojian said, “I hope to achieve good results in international competitions, and hope to constantly break through myself and make greater progress.” Dong Guojian’s final result was 2 hours and 8 minutes 53 seconds. The whole game was extremely stable and successfully met the world championship. This is the third time he ran into 2 hours and 10 minutes in his personal sports career.
After the end of this competition, Dong Guojian had three seats in the top five in the history of Chinese men’s marathon. Next, Dong Guojian will continue to conduct overseas training with his teammates to prepare for the 2023 World Championships and the Asian Games. Ji Tao, deputy director of the Committee of the long-distance marathon team of the China Tian Association, said that we should stick to the goal of “winning” to prepare for the war and implement the training idea of “Dancing With Wolves. Dong Guojian’s success in meeting the standards of the world championships is the embodiment of the results of phased training. Apart from the World Championships and the Asian Games, Dong Guojian hopes to stand on the stage of the Olympic Games again, and he will continue to work hard for this goal.
