Liu Shiwen was elected as a member of the new International Table Tennis Federation Athletes Committee.
BEIJING, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) according to ITTF International Table Tennis Federation, the International Table Tennis Federation recently officially announced the election results of the new athletes committee. Among the 25 candidates, there are 10 athletes (including 2 disabled athletes) liu Shiwen, a Chinese athlete, was successfully elected.
There are 10 seats for athletes in this election. The election was held online on November 7-13, with 283 athletes voting.
The other nine athletes elected at the same time with Liu Shiwen are: Elizabeta Samara (Romania, female), sharas Kamal Achanta (India, male), daniel Li Rios (Puerto Rico, female), Omar Azar (Egypt, male), Melisa teop (Australia, female), Stephen Ferger (Austria, male), joan Persson (Sweden, male), ingella Lundbeck (Sweden, female), Kelly Van Zong (Netherlands, female).
The term of office of the newly elected members is 4 years (2022-2026). Petra Sorin, the president of ITTF, said: “I want to thank all the athletes who have been elected and congratulate all the athletes who have been elected. I look forward to working with them. The athletes committee is crucial because it connects athletes with the International Table Tennis Federation to ensure that the athletes’ demands and opinions are conveyed and communicated.”

It is understood that all newly elected members will be invited to attend the ITTF summit to be held in Amman, Jordan in December. At that time, the athletes Committee of the International Table Tennis Federation will, together with the member Ryu Seung-min of the athletes Committee of the International Olympic Committee, elect two chairmen of the athletes committee, one man and one woman.
