British businessman petrochemical giant Ratcliffe becomes Manchester United’s “potential buyer”
Xinhua News Agency, London, August 17th, a spokesman for Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of British petrochemical giant INIX, said on the 17th that if the Premier League giants Manchester United were sold, Ratcliffe would definitely become a potential buyer.
According to foreign media reports, the Glazer family in the United States, the current owner of Manchester United, is considering selling minority shares. Manchester United has not started well this season under the leadership of new coach Teng Hager and is currently at the bottom of the Premier League.
A spokesman for the INIX group said that Ratcliffe was ready to buy this part of the equity as a prelude to gaining full control. The spokesman added: “If this purchase is possible, we will be interested in discussing the acquisition of long-term ownership.”
The Glazer family bought Manchester United through financing mergers and acquisitions in 2005, which also made the club bear huge debts, for a long time, the family has been accused of investing far less in Manchester United’s transfer and stadium renovation than their investment in the financial market.
The last time Manchester United won the Premier League championship was in 2013. They have not raised the trophy of an important event since 2017. The humiliating game lost to Brentford at 0:4 away last weekend made Manchester United bottom in England’s top league for the first time in 30 years.
“This is no longer a matter of spending money.” A spokesman for the innix group said, “what Jim cares about is what he can do for Manchester United now. He knows how important Manchester United is to this city, and he feels it is time to restart.”
In May this year, Ratcliffe, a Manchester United fan, wanted to buy Chelsea, but later lost to the consortium of American businessman Todd Polly. Innix group currently has the ownership of the French nice club and the Swiss Lausanne Sports Club.
